Digital Motion X-Ray (DMX)

You can’t treat what you can’t see!

Digital Motion X-ray® provides full motion, High Definition images of the spine and joints, allowing us to find the source of the pain.

The Sore Spot has been selected as the exclusive provider of Digital Motion X-ray imaging within the State of New Jersey. We are fully-certified and trained to utilize this advanced medical imaging system to visualize the human body real-time, while in motion.

DMX® technology enables the Sore Spot to diagnose and treat injuries which are not easily detected using traditional X-ray or MRI.

What Is Digital Motion X-Ray?

DMX® is a revolutionary X-ray imaging system, coupled with new digital and optic technology, that allows clinicians to view the upper, middle and lower spine on a video monitor while the patient moves. In effect, DMX creates an X-ray movie of real-time motion at the speed of 30 X-rays per second. The procedure is performed with the patient standing and actively moving, or sitting and actively moving, depending on which part of the spine is being studied.

DMX is a powerful diagnostic tool for those suffering neck injuries from car accidents, sports injuries, chronic pain, joint pain, TMJ pain, back pain and many other signs and symptoms of injury.

The Limitations Of Conventional Imaging

Ligaments connect bone to bone. Spine ligaments hold the vertebrae of the spinal column in place. They protect the bones and nerves that make up the vertebrae and spinal cord. When your body receives an impact that is fast and hard (trauma, whiplash), the movement pulls the ligaments that are around the spine and causes injury. It can cause either stretching or tearing of the ligament. A tear of the ligament(s) will result in pain and swelling.

In order to determine if you have sustained a tear to a spinal ligament, a patient will typically be referred for an X-ray. Unfortunately, even the most advanced digital X-ray systems today are not sensitive enough to detect a torn ligament. The result is that patients are misdiagnosed and never receive the care they need to heal.

DMX Patient Benefits
  • Full motion, real-time digital video shows clearly the underlying cause of the problem.
  • Hidden injuries are revealed, enabling a more effective treatment plan based on a comprehensive, accurate diagnosis.
  • Treatments become more precise, specifically treating the source of the problem and not just the symptoms.
  • Improved diagnosis leads to improved outcomes.
  • DMX will detect and demonstrate, in full motion video, ligamentous instability which may result in a permanent injury as defined by the State of New Jersey.
DMX vs. MRI

If you hurt more when you move, then it’s best to be diagnosed while you move. The DMX system allows the clinician to take an X-ray movie while the patient moves in a standing, weight-bearing position. DMX evaluates the bones in motion, enabling the practitioner to detect which specific ligaments have been injured.

In contrast, an MRI scan of the cervical spine is designed to evaluate disc injuries while lying down, not moving and not swallowing. The symptoms of a cervical disc injury are usually numbness and tingling in the upper extremities. Unfortunately, the upper 30% of the spine and posterior aspect of the spine contain no discs, only ligaments. Headaches and posterior neck pain are commonly caused by stretched ligament injuries which cannot be detected by MRI’s, CT scans or static X-rays.

DMX is the only imaging study that can identify ligament damage, soft-tissue injuries and joint dysfunction.
